Thermalisation after inflation
نویسنده
چکیده
During (re)heating of the universe after inflation, the relativistic decay products of the inflaton field φ must lose energy and additional particles must be produced to attain a thermalised state at a temperature Treh. We estimate the rate of energy loss via elastic and inelastic scattering interactions. Elastic scattering is an inefficient energy loss mechanism so inelastic processes, although higher order in the coupling α, can be faster because more energy is transfered. The timescale to produce a particle number density of O(T 3 reh) is the inelastic energy loss timescale, ∼ (αnφ/T 2 reh).

The most dramatic addition to the inflationary zoo in recent years has been the extended inflation model1,2. At a time when viable models were dominated by the notion of scalar fields slow-rolling in almost flat potentials, extended inflation reintroduced the concept of inflation occurring via a first order phase transition. In such models, inflation is driven by a scalar field which gets ‘hung...
متن کاملCharacterization of the thermalisation efficiency and photostability of photoacoustic contrast agents
A simple method of characterizing organic dyes and nanoparticles used as contrast agents for photoacoustic molecular imaging based on relative photoacoustic measurements is described. By acquiring just two time-resolved photoacoustic signals, one in the sample of interest and the other in water, measurements of the thermalisation efficiency and other parameters relevant to the characterization ...
متن کاملQuasi Normal Modes
In this talk we review different applications of quasinormal modes to black hole physics, string theory and thermalisation in quantum field theory. In particular, we describe the the relation between quasi normal modes of AdS black holes and the time scale for thermalisation in strongly coupled, large N conformal field theory. We also discuss the problem of unitarity within this approach.

As thermalisation loss is the dominant loss process in the quantum dot intermediate band solar cells (QD-IBSCs), it has been investigated and calculated for a QD-IBSC, where IB is created by embedding a stack of InAs(1-x) Nx QDs with a square pyramid shape in the intrinsic layer of the AlPySb(1-y) p-i-n structure. IB, which is an optically coupled but electrically isolated mini-band, divides th...
متن کاملEquilibration, thermalisation, and the emergence of statistical mechanics in closed quantum systems.
We review selected advances in the theoretical understanding of complex quantum many-body systems with regard to emergent notions of quantum statistical mechanics. We cover topics such as equilibration and thermalisation in pure state statistical mechanics, the eigenstate thermalisation hypothesis, the equivalence of ensembles, non-equilibration dynamics following global and local quenches as w...
